Ascends The Path

Poetry renders it difficult to translate it. There is no “one to one” translation for poetry (this was a particular difficult one)

Belonging to the same notebook, yet this one is one of those undated ones. Most probably 2006, and most probably in Switzerland. During the last days of the Autumn, it appears (the starting of the poem); and the first snow might have fallen that day (white cloak). It is very likely to be one of those which are born from the climbing effort. While ascending, the energy brings and spontaneously forms something from the elements inside yourself.

Ascends The Path

The fact that in any ascension, gravity seems to be a force operating in opposition to our ascending struggle, does not imply that gravity itself is “against” us. To the contrary, in its inexorable goodness of preserving the balance and order of things, gravity executes only the necessary force so as to generate that invigorating pleasure that human effort brings.

Not all what contradicts us is precisely “negative”. We must be thankful to many of those contrary forces which have opposed us in our path, in our search for ourselves; as oftentimes it (the contradictory force) has been the push to our centre. And, conceivably, perhaps it has even saved us from falling flat on our faces; considering the overwhelming feral strength that such search brings inside us once awoken.

That could be said of any sort of “search”, quest, etc, even from the frivolous whims to mere obsessions. But in this ascending instance, we are talking about gravity: this pushes to the centre; to the earth’s core itself. An this (gravity), is exactly what keeps the elements of the star together and the earth alive, rotating on their own axis, yearning for eternity and unity with the universal (out of her). It does not lead to the disintegration of the whole; neither to the disunity of the elements causing imbalances and deficiencies. The force is therefore to one’s own core.

There are no whims or obsessions in climbing. The very action of climbing discourages a weak soul which is used to easy caprices. One could carry pain while walking, but this is overcome through the strain of the ascending march; and the gravitational opposition impels it to the core where everything is transformed, consumed. Nothing survives such vital equation of ascension & gravity. And there is not too much to be obsessed about while one’s own weight and that of what one is carrying place a load in the climb. And any of those existing in any given proportion, must be dropped on the march upwards (if one wishes to continue the way up), otherwise they risk crushing the walker down.  At certain height and after certain time, obsessions as well as whims become too heavy a load as to be carrying them. Gravity itself, which empathically insists on the centre and on the core of things, imposes a need for lightness during the climb; it imposes an introspection that leads to oneself, to self-awareness.

Climbing is not a daily brisk walk for fresh air. It is not for everyone; less for those who like and prefer ease, comfort and mediocrity. The path that leads to oneself is not that of make-up and good looks, of ease and comfort. The path that leads to oneself is that path to the torrid core and the nucleus. There, the superfluous and the illusory subsist not. Nothing survives at such temperatures. There are no photos from that trip. One simple IS
